Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi argued that his country had gained the upper hand both in the war and in the diplomatic process.
Speaking at an event on Tuesday, Araghchi said Iran had resisted military power for days and fought the opposing side, which was acting with the support of its allies. He said the opposing side initially demanded Iran’s unconditional surrender, but later requested negotiations.
Araghchi: Ceasefire accepted on Iran’s terms
Araghchi said Iran had rejected a ceasefire in the first phase of the war and continued the fight until the opposing side accepted a ceasefire and negotiations on Iran’s terms.
“We fought with strength and negotiated with strength,” Araghchi said, adding that numerous foreign ministers had told him Iran had won the war and the diplomatic process.
Trump called on Iran to surrender
Araghchi’s remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump called on Iran on Monday to give up the fight and “raise the white flag.”
