Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney addressed the problems in Palestine and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza at a news conference in Ottawa.
Carney responded to a question about whether the government would go beyond the statement of deep regret issued by foreign ministers to encourage the Palestinian administration to fulfill its international obligations.
Carney said they supported efforts to hold free and fair elections in Palestine and would maintain that position. Saying that many things in Palestine were "not working," Carney noted that "many people were responsible" for them.
Carney said they would continue sending aid to the region to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and also addressed the restrictions preventing aid from reaching Gaza. "The resources we allocate for support are far greater than the resources that can reach Gaza," Carney said.

Palestinian election timetable
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had changed the date of parliamentary elections, previously set for November 2026. Abbas decided that presidential and parliamentary elections would be held simultaneously on September 11, 2027.
The last general elections in Palestine were held in 2006, when Hamas won a majority of the seats.
