Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on Wednesday on the sidelines of the third Russian-African summit, hosted by Moscow on October 28 and 29.
Sisi seeks Moscow's support for Russian industrial zone
El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's commitment to developing its strategic partnership with Russia, particularly in the areas of the economy, trade and grain supplies. He asked Moscow to support the launch of the Russian industrial zone in Egypt, expressing Cairo's readiness to provide incentives and support to the Russian operating company.
He also reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to completing the Dabaa nuclear power plant, the country's first nuclear facility, on schedule. He proposed expanding cooperation to include the extraction of uranium and rare metals, small and floating reactors, the construction of a research reactor and center, as well as additional units after 2030.
Putin: Work at Dabaa is proceeding on schedule
Putin said work on constructing the Dabaa plant was proceeding according to schedule, noting that the reactor vessel for the second unit had been installed on July 9.
He explained that trade between Russia and African countries had increased by about one and a half times since 2022, exceeding $27 billion, with Egypt accounting for a large share. More than 1.2 million Russian tourists visited Egypt during the first half of 2026.
