Yair Golan, leader of Israel’s Democratic Party, met Mansour Abbas, leader of the Ra’am Party, to discuss a government planned to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. The meeting focused on accelerating the formation of the new government.
The location of the meeting with the Ra’am Party, which represents Israel’s Palestinian citizens, was not disclosed. Golan said the government transition should be accelerated and the will of Israeli voters put into effect.
"The time to act has come. It is our responsibility not to miss the opportunity for change."
Golan called on leaders of the bloc advocating a change in government to reconsider their positions on cooperation with Arab parties. He had previously announced his support for including the Ra’am Party in the government to be formed.

Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, opposed forming a coalition with Arab parties. Following the election, Golan also held political consultations with Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar Party, and opposition leader Yair Lapid.
The search for a post-election majority continues
The failure of the two main political blocs to secure a parliamentary majority after the election has prompted efforts to form a coalition for a new government. The bloc led by Netanyahu also failed to reach the majority needed to form a government.
Naftali Bennett, the former prime minister and leader of the Together Party, met with Yashar Party leader Gadi Eisenkot to establish a new government as soon as possible. Following the meeting at Bennett’s home in Ra’anana, a joint statement was issued in the names of the two politicians.
The statement said they had discussed "ways to establish a good government in Israel as soon as possible." It was not announced whether an agreement had been reached on forming a coalition.
