The death toll from an attack on a center where security forces and police personnel were being trained in Yemen's Shabwah province has risen to 73. More than 200 people were injured in the attack.
Shabwah Governorate announced that the attack was carried out by the Houthis, who are affiliated with the Iran-backed Ansarullah movement. Colonel Majid Abdullah al-Nazili, the official representative of the Yemeni Armed Forces, said the Martyr Ahmed al-Sulaymani Training Center was targeted with three ballistic missiles.
Shabwah Governor Awad Mohammed bin al-Wazir decided to personally oversee the treatment of the injured. The governor also ordered the rapid provision of the necessary health services and said treatment costs would be covered by the local administration's budget.

Shabwah authorities had announced immediately after the attack that 53 people had been killed and more than 200 injured. A subsequent announcement said the death toll had risen to 73.
Background to the war in Yemen
Yemen's civil war began after the Houthis seized control of the capital, Sana'a, along with parts of the country in September 2014. The Saudi-led Arab coalition has also supported Yemen's internationally recognized government since March 2015.
