U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar voted early at the Hennepin County elections center in Minneapolis ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for November 3, in which she is seeking a new term representing Minnesota's 5th Congressional District.
A federal investigation is continuing into whether Omar or her late father provided false information in immigration documents dating back decades to obtain legal residency and later U.S. citizenship.
Home search and subpoenas for relatives
Federal agents searched Omar's home in the Washington area on October 12 and seized her phone. More than a dozen grand jury subpoenas were also issued, including subpoenas involving some of her relatives. The Wall Street Journal reported that the investigation aims to build a case to strip her citizenship and deport her.
President Donald Trump renewed his accusations against Omar on Thursday, claiming that she uses a false name. The Somali-born representative categorically denied the allegations, describing them as “baseless lies and smear campaigns.” She has not been charged with any crime.
