The closure of the Tayasir and Ayn Shibli checkpoints in the northern Jordan Valley of the occupied West Bank prevented 104 teachers from reaching their schools. The measure disrupted education at six public schools and one kindergarten.
Azmi Belaune, director of the Tubas Directorate of Education and Teaching, said the checkpoint closures prevented teachers from reaching their workplaces. Belaune said the situation affected schools attended by about 1,100 students.
Main entrance to al-Mughayyir village closed
In al-Mughayyir village east of Ramallah, the Israeli army also carried out a raid and closed the village's main entrance. Dozens of Palestinians were detained.
The closure of the village entrance affected not only students' education but also the ability of workers and civil servants to reach their workplaces.
Al-Mughayyir village has been subjected to regular Israeli army raids and attacks as settler attacks on Palestinians and their property in the area have intensified.
Since the war in Gaza began in October 2023, attacks by the Israeli army and Israeli settlers against Palestinians and their property have increased across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
On the first day of the 2026-2027 academic year, the Israeli army raided the courtyards of two schools in the West Bank.
Private schools in East Jerusalem postpone classes
Palestinian private schools in occupied East Jerusalem decided to postpone educational activities until further notice in protest against the pressure imposed by Israel.
The schools said they were unable to complete health, cleaning and security preparations because entry permits had not been issued to their staff. Educational activities will remain suspended until entry permits for all teachers and employees are fully renewed.
