Former U.S. President Barack Obama criticized the war President Donald Trump is waging against Iran on Saturday during a campaign rally in Cleveland, Ohio, held in support of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton and Senate candidate Sherrod Brown, 10 days before the midterm elections.
Obama said Trump had decided to launch an unnecessary war that no one had asked for and no one had voted for, stressing that Iran did not possess a nuclear weapon thanks to the agreement reached by his administration. He added: “I did not have to launch a single missile; I relied on diplomacy.”
“They are not serious people”
Obama said that U.S. allies and military bases had come under attack during seven months of war, while a number of Americans had been killed and hundreds wounded. Missile stockpiles had also been depleted, and he said the war was the reason oil and diesel prices had risen.
Obama also mocked Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, saying he was preoccupied with “the jawlines of soldiers and their testosterone levels.” He added: “These are not serious people, and the problem is that you are the ones paying the price for their lack of seriousness.”
Obama’s rally coincided with rallies held by Trump in key states on the same day.
“The Cheesecake Factory opened by Saddam Hussein”
Obama also mocked the gold decorations Trump had added to the White House, saying he had turned it into something resembling “a branch of The Cheesecake Factory opened by Saddam Hussein.”
