Solar power is nearing nuclear power in global electricity generation. According to Ember’s Global Electricity Review 2026, solar power generation reached 2778 terawatt-hours in 2025, up 30 percent from 2024.
Solar power surpassed wind power globally for the first time in 2025 and came close to nuclear power. Ember expects solar and wind power combined to surpass nuclear power in 2026.

By contrast, the World Nuclear Industry Status Report 2026 says solar power had already surpassed nuclear power in 2025. The difference between the two reports stems from their calculation methods, as Ember’s data shows solar power outperformed nuclear power in some months of summer 2025.
The Gulf region is considered a promising market for solar power, hosting major projects such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.
