U.S. media highlighted Türkiye’s reconstruction campaign in areas affected by the February 6, 2023, earthquakes. Anadolu Agency reported that USA Today and Business Insider covered the completion of 455,357 independent units in the earthquake zone, along with infrastructure, schools, commercial areas and historic city centers.
The reports noted that the foundations of the first permanent homes were laid 15 days after the disaster, while the first rural homes were handed over on the 45th day. At the peak of construction, around 200,000 people worked at 3,481 sites, and the construction rate reached 23 homes per hour, or about 550 homes per day.

According to data from Türkiye’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the completed units in the 11 provinces comprise 367,995 homes, 65,672 rural homes and 21,690 commercial premises. Hatay accounted for the largest number, with 153,755 units, followed by Malatya and Kahramanmaras. The final homes were handed over during a ceremony held in Hatay on December 27, 2025.
Russia’s Komsomolskaya Pravda had previously featured the reconstruction campaign on its front page on October 19. The two earthquakes that struck Kahramanmaras and affected 11 provinces killed more than 50,000 people in Türkiye.
