In an analysis titled "Everything is going wrong for Mohammed bin Salman," The British magazine The Economist said three of the Saudi crown prince's biggest bets were faltering at the same time.
On security, the magazine said the confrontation with the Iran-backed Houthi group had not produced the outcome Riyadh wanted. The group has been launching missiles and drones at the Saudi capital for weeks, making it harder to convince the world that the kingdom is a safe place for investment and business.

Economically, the magazine pointed to pressure on Vision 2030 stemming from funding problems, project delays and the need to direct resources toward security.
The third bet was on U.S. President Donald Trump. The magazine wrote that the kingdom believed it had influence over him and sought to win his favor with promises of huge investments in the United States and deals with his family, but that this did not stop him from waging what it described as a catastrophic war.
