U.S. Representative Delia Ramirez called on Congress to advance a bill that would restrict weapons transfers to Israel, arguing that attacks in Gaza are continuing.
In a statement, Democratic Representative Ramirez of Illinois described Israel's actions against Palestinians as genocide. Ramirez alleged that these actions are being carried out with weapons funded by American taxpayers and said children and families have been killed in airstrikes in Gaza.
Ramirez said nearly 500,000 Palestinians face the risk of losing access to food and humanitarian aid. Saying that this process, advancing through bombs or starvation, must end, Ramirez called for the passage of her bill.
Bill restricting ammunition transfers to Israel
Last year, Ramirez introduced H. R. 3565, the "Stop the Bombs Act," together with Democratic Representatives Sara Jacobs, Pramila Jayapal and Mark Pocan.

The bill aims to block the transfer of certain types of ammunition to Israel. It covers BLU-109 bunker-buster bombs, MK80-series bombs, variants of GBU-39 small-diameter bombs, Joint Direct Attack Munition kits, SPICE guided bomb systems, 120-millimeter tank ammunition and 155-millimeter artillery ammunition.
The bill also covers the transfer of munitions containing white phosphorus.
Deaths and injuries in Gaza
Since the war began in October 2023, more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 175,000 injured in Gaza, while approximately 90 percent of civilian infrastructure has been affected by destruction.
According to the latest figures from Gaza's Health Ministry, 1,534 Palestinians were killed and 5,486 injured during ceasefire violations.
