Ali Al-Qaradaghi, president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, said the Mecca Agreement provided a major impetus for efforts to achieve unity in the Muslim world. He expressed hope that the process would begin and expand to include other Muslim countries.
Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan signed the Mecca Agreement on joint defense in Mecca last August. It stipulates that any armed attack on one of the three countries shall be considered an attack on all of them.

The International Union of Muslim Scholars had announced its support for the agreement, considering it a means of strengthening the power of the Muslim world in confronting shared threats. It also called for expanding the agreement to cover political, economic and developmental fields alongside the military and security domains.
Al-Qaradaghi made the remarks as the Turkish parliament prepares to ratify the agreement. A bill on the matter was submitted to the parliament's presidency on October 21, and the Foreign Affairs Committee is scheduled to discuss it on Tuesday.
