Iranian President Pezeshkian met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Kyrgyzstan.
During his meeting with Modi, Pezeshkian said that since his government took office, it had aimed to ensure peace and security and resolve problems through dialogue and negotiations amid tensions with the United States.
The Iranian president argued that Americans preferred to impose their will through war, insecurity and the use of force rather than diplomatic mechanisms.
Referring to the agreement signed between the United States and Iran on June 17, Pezeshkian alleged that Washington had violated it. He said they expected the United States to fulfill its commitments.
Pezeshkian said they would nevertheless continue their efforts to reach reconciliation and understanding. He added that prolonging the war was not in the interests of Iran, the region or humanity.
The Iranian president also alleged that there were factions within the United States that wanted war and conflict to continue and considered this to be in their own interests.
