Abdul Amir Taiban, adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, accused the Iranian side of committing "serious violations affecting Iraqi sovereignty" and causing "widespread chaos along the border" in comments to the press on Wednesday, according to Al Mada newspaper.
Taiban said there was "a deliberate effort to undermine the national economy by smuggling counterfeit currency and drugs," arguing that the damage caused by this flow to the market and local economy exceeded that left by Daesh.

The biggest border problems
He added that Iraq faced its biggest border problems with Iran, compared with the stability of its crossings with Jordan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, noting repeated abductions of Iraqi citizens near the Shalamcheh and al-Shib crossings.
Taiban called on Tehran to take "firm legal measures" against those involved and urged the rollout of automated systems and electronic monitoring at all border crossings with Iran. The Iranian side has not yet issued an official comment on the allegations.
