Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi issued a diwani order on Monday dismissing Hamid Rashid Falih, known as Hamid al-Shatri, from his position as head of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service.

According to an official letter issued by the prime minister’s office and signed by his office director, Rashad Khalaf Hashim, the decision was based on directives from the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. It took effect on the date of issuance, October 26.
Reasons not disclosed

The reasons for the dismissal were not announced, the Iraqi News Agency reported, and the document did not name anyone to succeed al-Shatri as head of the agency.
Al-Shatri was appointed head of the National Intelligence Service in December 2024 under former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, after holding several security and intelligence positions.
The decision coincided with the issuance of a judicial order to arrest the head of the Maysan Provincial Council on the same day, after he threatened civil disobedience. Reports did not link the two events.
