Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said Israel should fully occupy the Gaza Strip, calling it “our land, the land of the Jewish people” and urging the “encouragement of emigration” by Palestinians from the territory.
Ben-Gvir said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post, as part of his election campaign, that there were places where Palestinians could live under better conditions. “For example, I would send them to France. Why not France? They could also go to places like Britain and London,” he said.
Ben-Gvir described U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to displace Gaza’s residents as “a very good plan.” Trump proposed in February 2025 relocating around two million Palestinians from the territory before the plan stalled. Ben-Gvir also posted AI-generated clips showing him moving Gaza residents to Paris.
His response to those rejecting departure from Gaza
Asked about Palestinians who refuse to leave Gaza, Ben-Gvir said: “If a house was his home, he would not start a war or slaughter children.” He added that before October 7, 2023, he had called within the government for Gaza to be bombed and for targeted assassination operations to be carried out.
He aspires to the defense portfolio
Ben-Gvir’s remarks come as he seeks to secure the defense portfolio in the next government, while opinion polls predict that his Jewish Power party (Otzma Yehudit) will win around eight seats in the Knesset in Tuesday’s election.
Similar remarks by Ben-Gvir in January 2024 prompted widespread international reactions. France’s Foreign Ministry said that the forced transfer of a population constituted a serious violation of international law, while the U.S. State Department described the remarks as “inflammatory and irresponsible.”
