Palestinians living in northern occupied Jerusalem face demolition orders issued by Israeli authorities against five homes. The Jerusalem Governorate announced that deadlines had been set to vacate the properties.
One of the homes targeted for demolition is near the Jaba military checkpoint, while the other four are in the Coptic Quarter of al-Ram. The owner of the home near the checkpoint was given 24 hours to vacate it, while residents of the other four homes were given two days.
40 demolition operations carried out in Jerusalem in August
The Jerusalem Governorate said 40 demolition and land-clearing operations targeting Palestinian-owned structures were carried out in August.
The governorate also announced that about 15 orders barring Palestinians from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque were issued during the first six days of September. This brought the number of documented entry-ban orders since the beginning of 2026 to 800.
As of the end of August, the number of orders recorded since the beginning of the year had been put at 785. Of these, 762 were issued during the first half of 2026, while a total of 23 orders were issued in July and August.
Entry bans to Al-Aqsa Mosque intensify
Most of the entry bans were imposed on Palestinians seeking to visit Al-Aqsa Mosque, particularly before and during Ramadan. The increase in September was attributed to the more intensive use of ban orders ahead of Jewish holidays running from mid-September to early October.
In the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, approximately 750,000 Israeli settlers live in 194 illegal settlements and 400 outposts. Attacks aimed at forcibly expelling Palestinians from their land have continued almost daily in the area.
Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza on October 8, 2023, Israeli army raids and attacks by Israeli settlers have also continued as daily occurrences in the occupied West Bank.
