Kosovo has signed an agreement to join the International Stabilization Force (ISF) planned to operate in Gaza.
The agreement was signed during the visit to Kosovo by Major General Jasper Jeffers, commander of the Gaza International Stabilization Force. Representatives of the Board of Peace and the ISF in Gaza, along with Kosovo Security Force Commander Lieutenant General Bashkim Jashari, signed the document at the ceremony.
Jeffers praised Kosovo’s decision and preparations to contribute to the international mission. He said the contribution of the Kosovo Security Force was important to efforts to promote peace, security and stability.
Jashari said the Kosovo Security Force’s participation in international security missions was part of his country’s vision of making a concrete contribution to the promotion of peace and security around the world.
Jashari said Kosovo aimed to continuously increase the Kosovo Security Force’s contribution to international security. He noted that this goal envisaged transforming the force from an entity receiving external support in the security field into one that contributes, together with its international partners, to establishing and maintaining peace and security.
Next steps in the Gaza plan
The Board of Peace published a road map on July 31 for implementing the next phase of the Gaza plan.
The road map included the disarmament of Hamas, Israel’s phased withdrawal, the transfer of governance to a committee of Palestinian technocrats, the deployment of the international stabilization force and the reconstruction process.
