The Mauritanian coast guard rescued 191 irregular migrants in the country’s territorial waters on Wednesday and provided them with care as part of its surveillance and rescue operations to protect lives at sea.
The migrants were aboard a boat that departed from Bargny in Senegal. They came from several African countries, including Senegal, Guinea, Gambia and Côte d’Ivoire.

Mauritania continues efforts to monitor its territorial waters and combat irregular migration. The country is one of the main transit points for migrants from sub-Saharan Africa seeking to reach Spain’s Canary Islands and then mainland Europe.
