As tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed developments in the region and relations between the two countries by phone on Thursday.
Call for urgent steps toward peace and stability
The two leaders said urgent steps were needed to restore peace and stability in the Middle East. Modi reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy were the path to pursue in resolving regional issues.
Modi and Netanyahu also agreed to maintain contact.
India-Israel partnership
According to a statement from Modi’s office, the leaders expressed satisfaction with the ongoing momentum in relations between India and Israel. Both sides reiterated their shared commitment to further strengthening the Special Strategic Partnership.

Tensions continue in the region
The phone call took place as clashes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis continued and regional tensions rose. The Saudi-led coalition carried out airstrikes on Houthi positions, while the Houthis launched missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia.
The tensions in the region coincided with continued strain following the military confrontation between the United States and Iran. Diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement between the sides failed to produce results.
