A cruise missile launched by the Houthis in Yemen toward western Saudi Arabia was intercepted and destroyed by the Saudi-led coalition's air defense systems.
Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki announced that the missile had been intercepted early Friday.
Two ballistic missiles sent toward Riyadh also intercepted
According to the coalition's statement, the Houthis launched two ballistic missiles toward Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on Thursday. The missiles were also intercepted and destroyed.

The Houthis said the same day that they had carried out six attacks against targets in Saudi Arabia. They said the targets included oil facilities and airports.
Background to the conflict in Yemen
The Saudi-led coalition has been involved in the conflict in Yemen since March 2015 to support Yemen's internationally recognized government.
The Houthis took control of Yemen's capital, Sana'a, in September 2014. The missile interceptions came amid rising military tensions between the coalition and the Houthis.
