The General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces said a border guard unit affiliated with the Northern Military Zone thwarted an attempted infiltration and border crossing by an armed group arriving from Syrian territory on Friday evening, October 30. The group was estimated to have 14 members.
The Jordan News Agency (Petra) quoted a military source as saying that the group attempted to infiltrate under the cover of heavy gunfire and engaged directly with the border guard forces. The forces immediately responded, causing “numerous casualties” among the group, while the remaining members fled deeper into Syria.

The source said the armed forces would deal with any infiltration or smuggling attempt “with full force and firmness,” without disclosing the number of people killed or any seized items.
The operation came days after tensions between Amman and Damascus. The two countries formed a joint security committee following air operations in Daraa province, while Syria summoned the Jordanian ambassador to protest the shelling of civilian sites.
