Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler said Türkiye is ready to sign an agreement with Egypt to delimit maritime jurisdiction zones in the eastern Mediterranean, in an interview with the Turkish Star channel.
Güler said: “Our offer to Egypt is clear. If Egypt signs such an agreement with Türkiye, it will gain a maritime jurisdiction area approximately 15,000 square kilometers larger than what it could obtain under a potential agreement with Greece.”

The Turkish minister’s remarks came after Türkiye and Libya signed a memorandum of understanding on delimiting maritime jurisdiction zones, which Greece objected to.
No confrontation with the Houthis
In the same interview, Güler said Türkiye does not expect to enter into any confrontation with the Houthi group, explaining that Turkish support for Saudi Arabia aims to strengthen deterrence, as in Qatar. He noted that the “Makkah Alliance” agreement between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan has been submitted to the Turkish Parliament, and that the scope of any military support will be determined by the authority granted by Parliament.
Güler also described the “Badr” memorandum signed with Qatar, Indonesia and Pakistan as an important development in multilateral military cooperation aimed at combining the defense capabilities of the participating countries.
