Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the suffering of the Palestinian people not to be forgotten in remarks during the first plenary session of the third Russia-Africa Summit, hosted by Moscow.
Putin: Palestine continues to suffer
Putin said: “Amid the ongoing events in the Gulf, we must not forget Palestine and its problems. It continues to suffer.”
He stressed that Russia remains committed to the two-state solution, saying that a final solution to the Palestinian issue can only be achieved by implementing this principle, namely by establishing a fully independent Palestinian state across the Palestinian territories.
Gaza ceasefire in place as airstrikes continue
A ceasefire has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since October 2025. However, the Israeli army continues to carry out airstrikes on the strip, claiming they target sites and members of Hamas, while the United Nations describes the humanitarian situation there as still difficult.
The Russia-Africa Summit and its accompanying economic and humanitarian forum are being held in Moscow on October 28 and 29. Putin also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on the sidelines of the summit.
