The Turkish Consulate General in Basra thanked all the guests who honored it with their presence at the reception it hosted on October 29 for the Turkish Republic Day.
The consulate extended special thanks to “our Basra girl,” who delighted attendees by singing the Turkish national anthem after the official program ended, according to a thank-you message the consulate published Sunday in Arabic and Turkish.
A notable moment after the official program
The footage published by the consulate shows the girl in a white dress standing on the stage and singing the Turkish national anthem, known as the “Independence March,” into a microphone in front of the audience in the reception hall.
The Turkish national anthem is known as the “Independence March.” Its lyrics were written by poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, and the Turkish Parliament adopted it as the national anthem in 1921.
Celebrating with Basra residents
On the evening of the reception, the consulate announced that it had celebrated the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye with Turkish citizens, “our brothers from Basra and our foreign friends,” in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and joy.

Images from the reception show a large turnout of guests, including attendees in traditional Arab attire, standing side by side inside a hall decorated with Turkish flags. A bouquet of red roses was presented during the event.
